KILIFI County—Feb 5, 2026—A total of 5,040 youth from Lamu, Kilifi, and Tana River counties are set to receive KSh160 million in NYOTA Business Start-Up Capital grants during a ceremony presided over by President William Ruto in Malindi.
The beneficiaries have been drawn from 60 wards across the three counties, including 10 wards in Lamu, 35 in Kilifi, and 15 in Tana River County.
The disbursement follows the successful completion of a mandatory four-day business skills training programme, which equipped the young entrepreneurs with practical knowledge to start and grow sustainable businesses.
Under the NYOTA Business Start-Up Capital component, each beneficiary will receive KSh25,000 in the first phase. Of this amount, KSh22,000 will be credited directly to the Pochi la Biashara account on their mobile phones, while KSh3,000 will be deposited into a Haba na Haba Savings Account managed by the National Social Security Fund.
In the second phase of the programme, each beneficiary will receive an additional KSh25,000, bringing the total start-up capital per youth to KSh50,000.
The NYOTA programme aims to promote youth entrepreneurship, expand access to finance, and support income-generating activities across the Coast region.
