MTWAPA, Kilifi-Dec 30, 2025- A traffic police officer attached to Mtwapa police station area has been arrested by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) after he was allegedly caught receiving a bribe.
The officer was apprehended along the Mtwapa-Malindi Road after EACC officers recovered KSh 13,750 in cash from his pocket, all in KSh 100 denominations, believed to be proceeds of corruption.
The suspect has been identified as Mazera Haron and is currently being held at the EACC offices in Malindi as investigations continue.
Confirming the arrest, EACC North Coast Regional Head Jarso Dida said the officer was taken into custody following an operation targeting corruption within the traffic police unit.
Dida stated that the suspect is expected to be handed over to Malindi Police Station as EACC prepares to process the case in line with anti-corruption laws.
The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the commission to curb bribery and corruption among public officers, particularly along major highways where motorists frequently encounter law enforcement officers.
EACC has reiterated its commitment to holding public officials accountable and urged members of the public to report corruption incidents through official reporting channels.
