MOMBASA County—Jan 19, 2026 — Journalist and security expert Elkana Jacob has announced plans to roll out an Islamic Qur’anic competition (Musabaqa) targeting Muslim youth across all five wards in Nyali Constituency.
Jacob, made the announcement on Sunday at Masjid Abrar in Barsheba, Frere Town Ward, during an Islamic gathering attended by Imams and Ustadhs.
He said the programme will be implemented through the Elkana Jacob Foundation and is expected to run throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
He noted that the Musabaqa aims to promote regular study, memorisation and practice of the Qur’an while nurturing a new generation of skilled Qur’an reciters and memorisers within the community.
The competition will also serve as a platform to identify, mentor and recognise emerging talent for future leadership roles in the Islamic community.
Jacob said the initiative is also designed to address social challenges affecting the youth, including drug abuse, sexual and gender-based violence, and insecurity, by strengthening moral values, Islamic identity and community cohesion.
“The Musabaqa is not only about competition, but about building character, faith and a strong sense of togetherness among our youth and the wider Muslim community,” he said.
Further details on the launch and implementation of the programme are expected to be released in the coming days.
Jacob has previously expressed interest in vying for the Nyali parliamentary seat in the 2027 General election.
