MOMBASA, Kenya-Dec 26, 2025-Mombasa Governor and ODM Deputy Party Leader Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir has strongly criticized a section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders opposing the party’s decision to work with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), warning that internal resistance will not be allowed to weaken the party.
Speaking during a public engagement in Mombasa, Nassir said ODM remains firm on its current political direction following the signing of a cooperation agreement with the Kenya Kwanza government, insisting the move was deliberate, transparent, and in the national interest.
“We will not allow our party to be weakened from within. This party belongs to its members, and as leaders, we bear a responsibility to safeguard their interests and to act in the best interests of our country,” Nassir said.
The Governor faulted ODM leaders who have publicly criticized the cooperation framework, accusing them of undermining party unity and engaging in political double-speak.
“If there are differing views or proposals, let them be presented openly and constructively, just as we openly declared our intention to form government. Leadership demands honesty, courage, and accountability — not concealment,” he added.
Nassir further emphasised that ODM has no intention of retreating into opposition alliances or aligning itself with any rival opposition faction, stating that the party’s current engagement with the government is strategic and issue-based.
