NAIROBI, Kenya—Feb 5, 2026—The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has appointed Moses Ledama Sunkuli as its Acting Chief Executive Officer and Commission Secretary with immediate effect.
In a press release dated February 5, 2026, the electoral body said the appointment follows the resignation of former CEO and Commission Secretary Marjan Hussein Marjan.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon said Sunkuli, who currently serves as the Commission’s Director of Electoral Operations, brings extensive experience and deep institutional knowledge to the role.
“Sunkuli will serve in an acting capacity for a period of six months or until the recruitment and appointment of a substantive Chief Executive Officer is finalised,” the Commission said.
The IEBC added that it is committed to fast-tracking the recruitment of a substantive CEO and Commission Secretary to ensure a seamless leadership transition while maintaining high standards of service delivery to Kenyans.
The appointment comes at a time when the Commission is under pressure to stabilise its leadership and address key administrative and electoral reforms following the exit of Marjan Hussein Marjan.
