Jomvu MP Badi Twalib defends Junet Mohammed amid ODM infighting

MOMBASA County—Jan 24, 2026—Jomvu Member of Parliament Badi Twalib has strongly defended Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, cautioning politicians against what he described as sustained mudslinging and unfounded attacks on the ODM parliamentary minority leader.

Speaking during the official launch of four classrooms built through the Jomvu National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) at Mireroni Comprehensive School in Miritini Ward,

Mombasa County, Twalib said Junet remains a central pillar of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and a trusted leader whose contribution to the party cannot be dismissed.

The legislator criticised a section of ODM leaders for allegedly using public platforms to attack Junet following the death of former Prime Minister and party leader Raila Odinga, saying the remarks were divisive and disrespectful to the party’s legacy.

“Junet Mohammed is a leader in our party and in Parliament. He is our Minority Leader and has done a lot to build ODM into what it is today. It is unfortunate that some leaders are now speaking ill of him and sacrificing him politically,” Twalib said.

He dismissed claims that Junet sabotaged ODM’s 2022 presidential campaign, questioning why Raila Odinga would have retained him as Minority Leader if there was any mistrust.

“If Junet truly betrayed Raila in 2022, why would Raila reward him with the Minority Leader position in Parliament? Until his death, Junet remained Raila’s close ally and confidant,” he added.

Twalib warned that leaders from Jomvu and across Mombasa County would not remain silent in the face of what he termed baseless accusations, vowing to firmly stand with Junet against political attacks from disgruntled party members.

“We will defend Junet as the people of Jomvu Constituency and Mombasa County. We will not allow unfounded attacks to undermine his leadership,” he said.

The MP also defended Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, praising his role as ODM Deputy Party Leader and crediting him with strengthening the party’s standing at the Coast.

Twalib noted that Nassir’s leadership was instrumental in ODM’s victory in the Magarini parliamentary by-election in Kilifi County, saying it reflected credible and effective party organisation.

The remarks come amid renewed political tension following allegations by allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who have accused Junet Mohammed of secretly working with President William Ruto to undermine Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential bid.

Former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala has claimed that Junet held secret meetings with Ruto and leaked sensitive information about ODM’s agents across the country—claims ODM leaders have strongly denied.

ODM officials have maintained that the allegations are politically motivated and aimed at sowing discord within the party as it navigates the post-Raila political landscape.
