Kinango Boys shocks Kwale with historic KCSE performance

KINANGO, Kwale-Jan 13, 2026- Kinango Boys Secondary School has stunned Kwale County after recording a historic mean score of 7.569 (B-) in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, marking its best performance since the school was established.

The results triggered celebrations across Kinango town, as students, parents, teachers and residents poured into the streets to celebrate what many described as an unexpected but well-earned academic breakthrough.

According to the official results slip, 267 candidates sat the 2025 KCSE examination at the school, with 227 qualifying for direct university entry, translating to an impressive 86.64 per cent pass rate. The school also registered a positive deviation of +1.143, a sharp rise from its 2024 mean score of 6.426.
School principal Siasa Rodgers Mwafungo attributed the strong performance to discipline, teamwork and close academic monitoring of learners.

“These results represent a new record for Kinango Boys. They are a product of dedication, discipline and teachers closely monitoring individual students’ academic progress,” Mwafungo said.

The performance places Kinango Boys as the second-best performing school in Kwale County, behind Kwale Boys High School, which posted a mean score of 9.3, and highlights the school’s rapid academic rise.

Mwafungo noted that sustained cooperation between teachers, parents and education stakeholders has been central to the improvement.

“There has been strong collaboration between parents, teachers and stakeholders, and that unity has helped us achieve these results,” he added.

The principal revealed that the school is now setting its sights even higher.

“Our next target is to move from a B- mean score of 7.569 to a mean grade of 10,” he said.
Students at Kinango Boys expressed confidence that future results would be even stronger, citing early syllabus coverage, improved learning structures and high discipline levels.

The Kinango Boys performance adds to a growing trend of public secondary schools in the Coast region posting improved KCSE results, offering renewed hope for education outcomes in areas that have traditionally lagged behind nationally.
