MOMBASA County—Jan 21, 2026—The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has issued a public warning against recruitment scams following claims that some job applicants have been asked to pay large sums of money to secure employment at the state corporation.
In a public notice, KPA said it has noted an increase in cases where unscrupulous individuals are targeting unsuspecting members of the public by falsely claiming they can secure them jobs at the Authority in exchange for money.
According to KPA, the fraudsters are either impersonating senior management and staff or masquerading as agents and brokers, deceiving job seekers into making payments for non-existent job placements.
“The Authority wishes to categorically reiterate that it is an equal opportunity employer that upholds fairness, transparency and professionalism, and operates a merit-based and structured recruitment process,” KPA said in the notice.
The Authority further clarified that it does not solicit or accept any form of payment from individuals seeking employment and warned members of the public against sharing personal information or making payments to individuals claiming to offer jobs on its behalf.
KPA has in the past faced accusations from some job seekers of discrimination during recruitment, with allegations that bribes were demanded to secure positions at the country’s largest port operator.
However, the Authority has distanced itself from such claims, maintaining that any such demands are the work of fraudsters acting independently.
The port authority advised victims or those who suspect fraudulent recruitment activity to report the matter to the nearest police station, noting that it will not be liable for losses arising from such scams.
