Lulu Hassan steps up Mvita battle against incumbent MP

MOMBASA County-Dec 30, 2025- Television personality-turned-politician Lulu Hassan has intensified her political campaign in Mvita Constituency, deepening her presence on the ground months after quietly setting the wheels of her political journey in motion in April.

From free medical camps to joint public rallies alongside established political figures, Lulu has steadily built momentum across Mombasa Island, positioning herself as a hands-on contender challenging incumbent MP Mohammed Soud Machele.

Speaking during a recent community engagement in Mvita, Lulu said her politics is anchored on service, not spectacle.

“I did not come to politics to make noise. I came to listen, to serve, and to work with Mvita people to transform their lives,” she said.

Since April, her campaign has focused heavily on community-based interventions, particularly in healthcare, where she has spearheaded free medical outreaches targeting low-income families. According to Lulu, the medical camps are part of a broader philosophy that leadership must respond to immediate human needs even before election day.

“Leadership does not begin after elections. It begins the moment you choose to stand with the people,” Lulu told residents during one of the medical camps.

Her political platform places strong emphasis on economic empowerment for youth and women, with skills development emerging as a central pillar of her message. Lulu argues that Mvita’s greatest untapped resource is its people, especially young men and women who lack access to training and capital.

“We cannot keep producing graduates and skilled youth who have nowhere to apply their talents. Economic empowerment must be practical, deliberate, and inclusive,” she said.

Education for all is another cornerstone of her agenda, with Lulu calling for strengthened support systems for learners from vulnerable backgrounds. She has repeatedly linked education to long-term social stability and economic growth on the island.

In recent weeks, Lulu has also been visible at high-profile public rallies, sharing platforms with seasoned political leaders—moves that signal both growing confidence and expanding political networks. Observers see her increased public presence as a clear message to the incumbent that the Mvita contest is no longer a quiet race.

Framing her bid as a collective project, Lulu insists that her leadership model rejects top-down politics in favor of community partnership.

“Mvita does not need a saviour. It needs unity. When leaders and wananchi work together, development becomes inevitable,” she said.

Mvita Constituency, which covers the historic Mombasa Island, has long been a battleground of ideas, influence, and identity at the Coast. With Lulu Hassan steadily stepping up her campaign, the race is shaping into a fierce political duel between incumbency and a challenger presenting herself as a people-driven alternative.

As the political temperatures rise, all eyes are now on how the incumbent responds to a campaign that is already on the streets, in clinics, and in public rallies—long before the ballot is cast.
