MOMBASA County—Feb 5, 2026—Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali has come under fresh criticism from leaders in Mombasa County following his recent public attacks on Coast leaders, whom he has accused of promoting hate and tribal politics against him.
Days after the MP lashed out at county leadership over what he termed coordinated political hostility, several leaders from the county dismissed the claims, saying the accusations are unfounded and aimed at masking his failure to deliver on key promises made to voters in Nyali constituency.
The leaders, led by Moses Aran Civilizer, a senior official in the Office of the Speaker of the Mombasa County Assembly, maintained that Mombasa’s leadership does not engage in divisive politics and has no agenda to target the legislator.
Civilizer said the MP’s confrontational tone towards Coast leaders has intensified in recent weeks, yet his criticism lacks substance and ignores pressing development concerns facing residents.
He warned against attempts to polarise residents—especially the youth—along ethnic or religious lines, stressing that county leaders will not allow young people to be used as tools for political division.
The youth leader added that unity and issue-based leadership remain central to Mombasa’s political culture, and called on leaders to focus on service delivery rather than political rhetoric
