ODM top brass meets in Kilifi amid internal party tensions

KILIFI County-Jan 12, 2025- The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Central Management Committee (CMC) on Monday convened a high-level meeting in Vipingo Ridge, Kilifi County, bringing together the party’s senior leadership to deliberate on key party, national and governance issues.

The closed-door meeting, chaired by ODM Party Leader Dr. Oburu Odinga, comes at a time when the party has faced growing internal disagreements and public dissent from some of its members, prompting renewed focus on unity, message discipline and strategic direction.

In a statement issued by the ODM Communications Directorate, the party said the meeting would focus on “emerging political and national issues of strategic importance,” with further briefings and media engagements to be communicated during the course of the day.

The choice of Kilifi as the venue is seen as politically significant, underscoring ODM’s continued reliance on the Coast region as a key support base, even as the party recalibrates its national posture amid shifting political dynamics.

In recent weeks, ODM leaders have issued conflicting public statements on governance, engagement with the Kenya Kwanza administration and internal party affairs, fuelling speculation about growing unease within the party ranks.

Party insiders say the CMC meeting is expected to address internal cohesion while setting a clear political and policy agenda going forward.

The Central Management Committee is one of ODM’s top decision-making organs and plays a critical role in shaping party strategy, enforcing discipline and coordinating political messaging across the country
