Restoring Future: Taib Abdulrahman leads youth out of addiction

MOMBASA County—Jan 24, 2026—In a quiet corner of Mombasa, where the challenges of urban life often overwhelm the dreams of young people, Taib Abdulrahman has made it his life’s mission to turn despair into hope.

As the anti-drug organisation, Reachout Centre Trust (RCT) Executive Director, Abdulrahman has dedicated himself to helping youth entangled in drug addiction reclaim their lives.

For Abdulrahman, this work is deeply personal. “Every young person I meet has a story, a dream, and a potential. Addiction steals that away. My role is simply to help them find the path back,” he says.

Under his leadership, Reachout Centre Trust has become a sanctuary for struggling youth, providing rehabilitation, counselling, mentorship, and skills training. From the moment a young person walks through the doors, they encounter a structured program designed not only to address addiction but also to rebuild confidence, resilience, and a sense of purpose.

Abdulrahman’s approach goes beyond treatment. He believes in restoring dignity. “We don’t just fight the addiction; we help young people rebuild their self-worth. That’s the real battle,” he explains.

The impact of his work is evident in the voices of those he has helped. Debora Ebole, who once struggled with substance abuse on the streets of Mombasa, says, “Reachout Centre gave me a second chance. They helped me see that I could have a life beyond drugs. Today, I’m helping and mentoring other girls who face the same struggle I did.”

Kassim Chai, another beneficiary, echoes her sentiment: “I was hopeless, addicted, and lost. But Taib and the team never gave up on me. With their guidance, I can now breath fresh life, I feel like I finally have control over my life again.”

Through workshops, community engagement, and partnerships with local organisations, Reachout Centre Trust equips its beneficiaries with vocational skills, helping them reintegrate into society as productive, empowered individuals.

Over the years, Abdulrahman’s relentless efforts have transformed countless lives. He measures success not only in numbers but in stories of personal triumph.

“Seeing a young person who was once hopeless embrace life again—that is the reward. That is what keeps me going,” he says, his voice reflecting both humility and determination.

Abdulrahman’s work has not gone unnoticed. Community leaders, government agencies, and private organisations have increasingly partnered with Reachout Centre Trust, supporting programs that scale up rehabilitation and prevention efforts. Yet, despite recognition, he remains focused on the core mission: giving every young person a second chance.

For Abdulrahman, the journey is ongoing. He envisions a Mombasa where no young person is left behind, where addiction is met with compassion, and where hope can be a reality for all.

“Every life restored is a step towards a stronger, healthier community. That is my calling,” he concludes with a smile.
