Ruto tasks Ambassadors to drive economic diplomacy, attract investment

NAIROBI, Kenya—Jan 20, 2026—President William Ruto has officially dispatched a number of Kenya’s ambassadors and high commissioners to their respective foreign postings, tasking them with advancing the country’s economic diplomacy and safeguarding national interests abroad.

Speaking during the engagement at State House, President Ruto said the diplomats carry with them the values, aspirations and hopes of the Kenyan people, noting that their primary responsibility will be to strengthen mutually beneficial bilateral and multilateral relations.

The President underscored the central role of outcomes-driven economic diplomacy in Kenya’s foreign policy, saying envoys will be expected to actively pursue trade, investment and strategic partnerships that support the country’s development agenda.

He said the diplomatic missions will be guided by the government’s roadmap to transform Kenya into a first-world economy, anchored on flagship instruments including the National Infrastructure Fund and the Sovereign Wealth Fund.

According to the President, the initiatives are aimed at mobilising capital for priority infrastructure, attracting long-term investments and creating dignified employment opportunities for young people.

Ruto said Kenya’s foreign service must remain focused on delivering tangible economic outcomes that accelerate growth and shared prosperity, while faithfully representing the interests of the country on the international stage.
