Sapphire Hotel opens modern gym as wellness demand grows in Mombasa

MOMBASA County—Jan 25, 2026—Sapphire Hotel Mombasa, located within Mombasa Island near the Central Business District (CBD), has launched a modern gym in response to the growing demand for wellness-focused spaces among urban professionals, business travelers and city residents.

Speaking during the launch, Sapphire Hotel General Manager John Yegon said the new facility reflects a shift in hospitality priorities, with wellness increasingly viewed as a core service rather than an added luxury.

“This launch represents a new chapter not only for Hotel Sapphire, but also for the city of Mombasa — one centred on wellness, balance and community,” Yegon said.

He noted that the transformation of the facility, presented through before-and-after visuals, was driven by the need to uphold consistent standards and adapt to changing lifestyles in the corporate and hospitality sectors.

“This transformation is not just about aesthetics. It is about commitment to excellence. Standards matter. Trust matters. Consistency matters, and that is why we invested in this wellness centre,” he said.

With Sapphire Hotel positioned in the heart of the island’s commercial hub, Yegon said the gym was designed to support individuals operating in high-pressure environments where long working hours, prolonged screen time and sedentary routines have become common.

“In today’s corporate world, people are working more, sitting more, sleeping less and carrying stress silently. That is why wellness is no longer a luxury — it is a necessity,” he said.

Industry trends show that hotels across major cities are increasingly prioritising wellness infrastructure as guests place greater value on physical and mental wellbeing.

Health experts consistently identify regular exercise as a key factor in reducing stress, improving cardiovascular health, boosting productivity and enhancing overall quality of life. The Sapphire Hotel gym is expected to serve both in-house guests and members of the surrounding CBD community, offering a modern and accessible space aimed at encouraging healthier daily routines.

Yegon said the hotel hopes the facility will help normalise fitness as part of everyday urban life, noting that even modest lifestyle changes can have long-term benefits.

“Exercise remains one of the most effective tools for better health, longevity and happiness. Our goal is to provide an environment that supports that journey,” he said.

He described the gym as part of Sapphire Hotel’s broader effort to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving urban hospitality market.
