Shakahola tragedy victim buried, children still missing

MAGARINI, Kilifi—Jan 17, 2025—A woman, identified as Harusi Kitsao, who died in the Shakahola forest, was buried today in GIS, Magarini Constituency.

Her four children, who also perished in the forest, have not yet been found and were therefore not buried alongside their mother.

Kitsao, reportedly died after following the directives of cult leader Paul Mackenzie, whose controversial Good News International church has been linked to dozens of deaths at Shakahola. Survivors allege that members were subjected to starvation and other extreme measures under Mackenzie’s orders, resulting in numerous fatalities.

Shakahola has been at the center of national attention following the discovery of dozens of deaths linked to the controversial Good News International church led by Paul Mackenzie.

The ongoing legal process has seen Mackenzie and several associates face charges related to murder, child abuse, and illegal confinement.

Cases connected to the Shakahola tragedy are ongoing in court as well as investigations into the full scale of the deaths.

Authorities continue to urge the public to report any information that may help locate the remaining victims and prevent further loss of life linked to the sect
