Six Iranians arraigned in Sh8.2 billion drug trafficking case

MOMBASA County- Jan 12, 2026- Six Iranian nationals appeared before the Shanzu Law Courts on Monday, facing charges related to the trafficking of methamphetamine drugs worth an estimated Sh8.2 billion.

The accused -Nia Jasem Darzadeh, Jadgal Nadeem Abdulgani, Baloch Hassan, Baloch Imran Mustafa, Baksh Rahim Goharam, and Daryayi Imtiyaz, aka Pamin — are linked to the seizure of 1,036.044 kilograms of methamphetamine intercepted in October 2025 during a multi-agency maritime operation off the Kenyan coast.

Security officers said the drugs were found aboard a stateless dhow in the Indian Ocean, leading to the arrest of the six individuals.

Following the conclusion of a Miscellaneous Application seeking custodial orders, the charges were formally read in court. All six accused pleaded guilty.

The court ordered that they be remanded at Shimo La Tewa GK Prison pending the reading of facts, scheduled for January 30, 2026.

Authorities described the case as a demonstration of the country’s commitment to dismantling transnational narcotics networks and shielding Kenya from the effects of illicit drugs.
