Sports stakeholders urged to invest in infrastructure to boost Kenyan football

MOMBASA County—Feb 2, 2026—Stakeholders in the sports sector have been urged to invest more in infrastructure, particularly football stadiums, as a way of strengthening and revitalising the game in Kenya.

Speaking during a live interview with our sports reporter in Mombasa, Kenya Police FC Secretary General Chris Oguso said inadequate sports infrastructure continues to undermine the quality and growth of football in the country.

Oguso noted that there is an urgent need for sustained investment in modern stadiums and training facilities to improve the standard of the game and enhance fan experience.

“It is unfortunate that the quality and appeal of Kenyan football has declined due to the lack of proper infrastructure,” Oguso said.

The Kenya Police FC official, whose team are the reigning league champions, called on fellow sports administrators and leaders to prioritise the development of internationally compliant stadiums to help raise the profile of the sport and support player development.

He added that improved infrastructure would not only benefit clubs and players but also contribute to the overall growth of the sports industry in the country.
