NAIROBI, Kenya—Feb 17, 2026—The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has delivered 30,000 kilograms of dates to support drought-affected families in Kenya ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The consignment was handed over at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by the Head of Consular Affairs and National Services Mr. Osama Abuseem Alali, on behalf of UAE Ambassador to Kenya Dr. Salim Ibrahim AlNaqbi.
It was received by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and Kenya Red Cross Society Secretary General Dr. Ahmed Idris.
The donation comes at a critical time as communities grapple with the effects of prolonged drought while preparing for Ramadan, when Muslims observe fasting from dawn to sunset and traditionally break their fast with dates.
Muslims across the country are awaiting the official declaration of the start of Ramadan by Acting Chief Kadhi Sheikh Sukyan Omar Hassan, who is expected to announce the beginning of the fasting period following the sighting of the crescent moon.
Earlier, the Chief Kadhi urged Muslims to avoid controversy over moon sighting and to respect the official pronouncement to ensure unity during the holy month.
Sheikh Sukyan urged Muslims to wait for the official announcement from his office.
He said Muslims will observe the crescent moon locally before starting the fasting period, emphasizing the need for unity during the holy month.
